From glacier tongues and Eastfjords villages to Lake Myvatn and West Iceland waterfalls
The journey
Fjadrargljufur is a winding gorge carved by glacial rivers, and an easy walk leads to Skaftafellsjokull, a glacier tongue in Vatnajokull National Park. Seydisfjordur, in the Eastfjords, has a historic centre of timber houses, art shops and a pretty blue church. Lake Myvatn is surrounded by bubbling geothermal areas and unusual craters, while the nearby Jokulsargljufur canyon holds Dettifoss waterfall. Godafoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s prettiest, lies in the north. Hvitserkur sea stack rises off the Vatnsnes peninsula, and the Hraunfossar waterfalls in West Iceland stream into a river.

What makes this journey
Day by day

Positioned between the Keflavik airport and Reykjavik, the moon-like lava landscape of the Reykjanes peninsula serves as a first introduction to Iceland. Except for the world-famous Blue Lagoon, the geological wonders of this region remain lesser visited. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge cuts across the peninsula making it one of the most volcanically active parts of Iceland, with colourful geothermal areas, a dramatic coastline, bustling bird cliffs and the Bridge between the Continents.
