Where the road thins out and the Westfjords grow truly wild.
The journey
This eight-day journey dives deep into Iceland’s most remote corner. From the lively harbour town of Isafjordur, wind through scenic fjords, quiet fishing villages and mountain passes to reach the thunderous Dynjandi waterfall. Explore the bird cliffs of Latrabjarg and the red sands of Raudasandur before venturing into Strandir, a sparsely populated land of fjords with driftwood beaches and folklore steeped in sorcery. Seals, seabirds and silence define the days, before returning south via Isafjordur Bay and finishing in Reykjavik.

What makes this journey
Day by day

The heart of the Northern Westfjords, the charming town of Isafjordur, offers a variety of options for exploring the surrounding fishing villages, adventure activities and day hikes. The surrounding fishing villages of Bolungarvik, Sudureyri and Flateyri are all within a 20-minute drive and provide insight into life in the Westfjords. Options for activities include sea kayaking in the fjord and bay, a super-jeep tour around the offbeat Svalvogar peninsula or a culture walk in the town. Hiking options are endless and range from all-day hikes to Hornstrandir or the Westfjords Alps, to shorter options in the mountains surrounding Isafjordur.
