The journey

Iceland's most iconic routes, at your own pace

Discover Iceland’s most remote and dramatic regions on this unforgettable westward road trip. From the lava fields and saga sites of West Iceland, the journey leads into the raw beauty of the Westfjords, where deep fjords, quiet fishing villages, and towering mountains define the landscape. Chase waterfalls like Dynjandi, explore red and golden beaches at Raudasandur and Breidavik, and stand at Europe’s edge on the bird cliffs of Latrabjarg. The adventure continues across the diverse Snaefellsnes Peninsula before ending in vibrant Reykjavik. This route is perfect for travellers seeking fewer crowds, rugged scenery, and authentic encounters with Iceland’s wild side.

1West Iceland & Borgarfjordur
West Iceland & Borgarfjordur

The lava landscape of West Iceland is home to several lesser-known sights like the Grabrok crater and Glanni waterfall, just off road 1. A detour into the Borgarfjordur area will take you to the unique Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring. The village of Reykholt on the way is steeped in saga history with a medieval centre and the oldest hot spring in Iceland. Hikers must take the road into the Hvalfjordur fjord for the exhilarating hike along a canyon and through caves to the 198m-tall Glymur waterfall.
