From colourful highlands and glaciers to remote fjords and the Westfjords.
The journey
Travel across Iceland from the popular sights of the southwest into the country's more remote eastern, northern and western regions. The journey combines colourful highland landscapes, powerful rivers and waterfalls, vast glaciers and black-sand coastlines with quiet fishing villages and dramatic fjords. After exploring the Eastfjords, continue north through volcanic terrain and along the Arctic coast before heading west towards the Westfjords. Here, winding roads and steep mountains lead through some of Iceland's most isolated landscapes. The route then continues through Snaefellsnes and West Iceland, ending in Reykjavik after a varied journey through Iceland's contrasting landscapes and regions.

What makes this journey
Day by day

The Golden Circle is Iceland's most popular sightseeing route. The three pillars of this region are Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and the Gullfoss waterfall. Thingvellir, a historically significant site, is located in the rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. The Strokkur geyser, which erupts 30 meters up into the air every 8-10 minutes, is the highlight of the Geysir geothermal area. Gullfoss, the golden falls, is one of Iceland's most impressive waterfalls. Apart from the most famous sights, there are several options for activities and lesser-visited gems including the Kerid crater lake and the hot springs town of Hveragerdi.
