Iceland's most iconic routes, at your own pace
Travel the length of Iceland on an extensive journey through remote coastlines, dramatic fjords and some of the country's most remarkable natural landscapes. Begin in West Iceland before heading north through the Troll Peninsula and the volcanic landscapes around Lake Myvatn. Follow the remote Arctic Coast Way to the far northeast, then continue through the scenic Eastfjords and along the glacier-dominated southeast coast. Discover glacier lagoons, black-sand beaches and waterfalls before exploring Thorsmork and the Golden Circle. The journey ends in Reykjavik after covering Iceland's most remote regions as well as its best-known sights, with plenty of opportunities to experience the country's varied landscapes.

The itinerary in detail
The lava landscape of West Iceland is home to several lesser-known sights like the Grabrok crater and Glanni waterfall, just off road 1. A detour into the Borgarfjordur area will take you to the unique Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring. The village of Reykholt on the way is steeped in saga history with a medieval centre and the oldest hot spring in Iceland. Hikers must take the road into the Hvalfjordur fjord for the exhilarating hike along a canyon and through caves to the 198m-tall Glymur waterfall.
