Travel through some of Iceland's most remote and diverse landscapes, from the lava fields and waterfalls of West Iceland to the far northern coast and the secluded Eastfjords. Explore the volcanic wonders of Lake Myvatn, the mighty Dettifoss waterfall and the dramatic landscapes around Asbyrgi before following the Arctic Coast Way through quiet fishing villages, sea cliffs and rich birdlife. Continue east through remote fjords and charming coastal towns, then follow the Ring Road south beneath the Vatnajokull glacier. Discover glacier lagoons, black-sand beaches and famous waterfalls before finishing with the Golden Circle and Reykjavik, combining remote landscapes with Iceland's best-known sights.

The itinerary in detail
The lava landscape of West Iceland is home to several lesser-known sights like the Grabrok crater and Glanni waterfall, just off road 1. A detour into the Borgarfjordur area will take you to the unique Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring. The village of Reykholt on the way is steeped in saga history with a medieval centre and the oldest hot spring in Iceland. Hikers must take the road into the Hvalfjordur fjord for the exhilarating hike along a canyon and through caves to the 198m-tall Glymur waterfall.
